Six wounded in overnight clashes in Jenin, Palestinian media reports

Six Palestinians were wounded during a confrontation between Israel police forces and Palestinians in Jenin on Monday night, according to Palestinian media reports.

Gunfire was exchanged during a police arrest operation in the city. According to Palestinian reports at least six people were wounded, several of whom are in serious condition.

None of the police officers were wounded.

Police said that the six wounded Palestinians were wielding explosive devices, Molotov cocktails and stones, saying that “it was clear that there would be an exchange of fire and the forces reacted accordingly.”

A border police source told Haaretz that the “use of live fire in Jenin has risen in recent weeks in several activities carried out recently,” noting that any arrest turns into a mass disturbance including short-range shootings. The arrest on Monday night was a routine arrest, but due to the tension in the city, Special Forces were brought in.
