Israeli swimmer Ami Dadaon won a silver medal on Saturday in the men’s 150-meter individual medley, securing Israel’s third medal in the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
Dadaon, competing in the S4 classification, finished the race at 2:29.48 — eight seconds slower than the Russian swimmer Roman Zhdanov, who took home the gold.
Dadaon was expected to win the men’s 100-meter freestyle – a category in which he is the reigning world champion – but was disqualified for jumping too early, despite reaching the wall first.
On Friday, Israeli swimmer Mark Malyar won a gold medal and set a new world record in the men’s 200-meter individual medley, finishing the race at 2:29.01.

Malyar’s win marked the second gold medal for Israel in this year’s Paralympic Games. On Wednesday, Iyad Shalabi won gold in the 100-meter backstroke (S1 classification), finishing with a final time of 2:28.04.
The Tokyo Paralympics mark Shalabi’s fourth appearance at the competition, but this is the first time the swimmer, who trains in Haifa, has won a medal.
