Barak Ben Ami, who stabbed his nine-month-old daughter to death last year, was convicted of murder Sunday.

Under a plea bargain, Ben Ami confessed to murdering his daughter Goni, and attempting to murder his partner, Liron Dror, and their other daughter. The agreement did not stipulate a sentence, and the prosecution is expected to ask the court to establish that this was an exceptionally brutal murder and to sentence Ben Ami to life imprisonment plus 20 years, and to pay compensation to Dror.

Prosecution attorney Liat Peleg told the Lod District Court that Dror consented to the plea bargain. She said it included “acceptance of full responsibility for the facts as they appeared in the indictment.”

The indictment said Ben Ami decided to kill his wife, his two daughters and himself over an argument about “inconsequential things.” He was convicted of stabbing the three with a kitchen knife in their Hod Hasharon home, after which he stabbed himself superficially in the neck. The mother and the other daughter, who is now four, were seriously wounded.

After the hearing, Dror said she hoped the judges “will leave him in jail for the rest of his life. My daughter deserves to grow up in peace and tranquility without evil knocking on her door, and I will do everything to make that happen.”
