A 12-year-old boy was killed on Thursday after a vehicle hit his bicycle near Giv’at Shmuel in central Israel, as Magen David Adom, Israel’s emergency services, reported high numbers of calls over Yom Kippur.
Paramedics were called to the aid of 2,583 people across the country, including the fatal accident of the boy from Ramat Gan. The police suspect the driver, a man in his forties, was driving under the influence when the accident occurred, and have taken him in for questioning.
Another boy, aged 11, was badly injured while riding his bike on the Ayalon Highway. Over the holiday 226 people were treated following accidents with bicycles, rollerblades, and scooters.
Israeli Police are also investigating an incident in the southern Israel town of Ar’ara in which a one-year-old was found in a sewage pit and brought to a clinic by his family. The boy was pronounced dead shortly after.

Medics were also called to the scene of 31 violent incidents, including two fatal shootings in Acre and Jisr al-Zarqa on Wednesday.
Magen David Adom also treated 239 people who were feeling unwell due to fasting, and transferred 135 women in labor to various hospitals.
