A volunteer with the police force is in critical condition after a car ran him and a police officer on Tuesday in the northern city of Nahariya.

Both men, in their 30s, were taken to the Western Galilee Hospital in the city. The officer is said to have been moderately wounded.

A suspect, a resident of the town of Arraba, was detained a short while after the incident at a nearby police roadblock.

Police are working to determine a possible motive and whether any others have been involved in the incident.

A medic at the scene said the two were hit near a construction site, and sources said they were there to find Palestinians without a valid permit to work in Israel.
