Four Israeli soldiers are suspected of the aggravated assault of a handcuffed and blindfolded Palestinian they detained about two weeks ago.

Ten soldiers were initially arrested by the Military Police’s Criminal Investigation Division in connection to the incident at a West Bank army base, but six have been released.

The four remaining soldiers’ detention has been extended several times since their arrest, and charges are expected to be filed against them with the Jaffa military court in the coming days.

According to the investigation, the soldiers punched the man and slapped him. One of them is suspected of pressing his gun against the detainee’s behind.

The Palestinian man, whose identity or the reason for his detention were not published, was then moved to a prison, where he underwent a medical examination. The doctor, who saw the bruises on the man’s body, reported the case, prompting the investigation.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed an investigation into the case was ongoing, stressing the Palestinian detainee was examined by medical staff at both the detention center and a hospital, but did not require any treatment.

The names of the soldiers, all from the Kfir Brigade’s Netzah Yehuda Battalion, are barred from publication.
