Several Israeli hospitals and medical facilities have been targeted with ransomware attacks but most managed to identify and repel them, the health and cyber authorities said on Sunday.
Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera, north of Tel Aviv, struggled for several days with the aftermath of the attack. The hospital’s systems were frozen on Wednesday and the hackers demanded a ransom. Technicians are still working to restore the data systems, according to Sunday’s statement.
In the interim, staff had to use alternative, paper-based systems to admit patients, according to media reports. It remains unclear who was behind the attacks. Police have launched a criminal investigation.
