A magnitude 5.8 earthquake hit the area of the Greek island of Crete in the eastern Mediterranean, the Geological Survey of Israel reported on Tuesday.
The tremor was felt in Israel as well however, thus far there are no reports of casualties or damage to property.

“After every earthquake there’s a chance of another quack, a larger one,” a researcher at the Geological Survey of Israel told Ynet news website on Tuesday.
“And many times – almost always – right after a strong earthquake like this one there are aftershocks,” Ran Nof added.

According to witnesses, the quake was also felt throughout Egypt. Cairo, Alexandria, and Assiut in Upper Egypt were among the places where people said on social media they felt the shake.
