Jerusalem fires renew, yet firefighters say situation under control

The fires that devastated Jerusalem earlier this week have renewed, the Israeli Fire and Rescue Service announced Thursday.

Firefighters say that the blaze has returned at Har Etan in the Judean Hills following increased wind speeds and dry conditions.

However, they are currently under control, and don’t present any immediate threat to local homes or properties.

Four firefighting planes are currently battling the blaze, as well 12 firefighting teams.

On Tuesday, firefighters gained full control over a huge fire in the Judean Hills, two days after several fires in the Jerusalem area began spreading outward.

Some 1,500 firefighters worked for 52 hours as they battled to subdue the flames at seven locations. In addition to 204 firefighting teams, 20 firefighter planes were used.
