Japan’s New PM Vows to Bolster Economy, Counter Security Threats From China

The 64-year-old politician replaces outgoing Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, who is stepping down after serving only one year. Kishida will become the new leader of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Kishida said on Monday during his first news conference since taking office that he will dissolve the lower house next week in preparation for Oct. 31 elections as he seeks a fresh mandate to deal with the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus pandemic, the sagging economy, and security threats from China and North Korea.
