Former Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat currently running to regain a U.S. Senate seat in Ohio after losing his 2024 re-election bid, has indicated that he would not support impeaching President Donald Trump.
If Democrats win the House majority during the midterms this year, they could seek to impeach the president along party lines next year — if that were to happen, the matter would then head to the Senate.
“I can’t speak for everybody else, but I would not support an impeachment of Trump. There’s just simply no reason for that, no matter what happens in the midterms,” the former lawmaker told The Columbus Dispatch on Oct. 9
Brown’s campaign and the White House did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s requests for comment on Tuesday.
The Democrat, who previously served in the Senate from early 2007 until early 2025, lost a 2024 Senate contest to Republican challenger Bernie Moreno.
Brown is currently facing Sen. Jon Husted, R-Ohio, in the Buckeye State’s special U.S. Senate election.
In a statement provided to Fox News Digital on Tuesday, a Husted campaign spokesperson said, “Sherrod Brown sided with his party twice to impeach President Trump during his first term. Now he’s masquerading as a moderate, despite a career aligning himself with Bernie Sanders and AOC. Don’t be fooled; when radical Democrats call, Brown always toes the line.”

Gov. Mike DeWine last year tapped Husted to fill JD Vance’s Senate seat, after Vance relinquished his legislative post in preparation for transitioning to the role of vice president.
During Trump’s first term, Brown voted to convict the president after both House impeachments. Though in both cases, the Senate’s votes fell short of the threshold necessary to convict, and by the time the Senate voted on the House’s second impeachment effort, Trump was no longer in office
