Israel’s coronavirus death toll passed 8,000 on Monday, while the number of patients in serious condition continued to decline and now stand at 357, according to Health Ministry data.
The number of new cases diagnosed on Sunday was 1,209, according to the ministry. There are now 168 people on ventilators, down from 157 a day earlier.
According to the available data, 75 percent of serious cases are among the unvaccinated, who make up some 15 percent of the country’s eligible population.

On Sunday, 12,609 people received a booster shot, according to ministry statistics, while 2,814 received their first dose of the vaccine and 2,339 received their second dose. The number of Israelis who have received a booster shot is now roughly 3.85 million – more than half the number of those who received at least one shot, which stands at about 6.2 million.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said Israel is winning in the fight against its fourth wave of coronavirus infections. “We can cautiously say that we are overcoming the fourth wave,” Bennett said at a cabinet meeting. “The delta wave, however – it’s not over until it’s over.”
